Mikael is a Nord bard who performs at the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. He is convinced he is both a legendary musician and an expert ladies’ man. The ladies of Whiterun mostly disagree.
Where to find them
He is a fixture inside the Bannered Mare, where he plays his lute and sings for the patrons.
Quests
- A Few Words with You – Carlotta Valentia is tired of his unwanted attention and asks you to make him back off. You can persuade him, pay him off or win a brawl, and Carlotta rewards you once he gives up.
- Rescue Mission – he can be the captive you are sent to free on this Companions job.
- Hired Muscle – he can also be the target of a Companions intimidation job.
Services
Like other inn bards, he plays songs on request, and he dedicates the Tale of the Tongues to the Dragonborn before playing it.
Personality & relationships
Mikael is vain, boastful and flirty whether or not anyone wants him to be. He claims tales of his songs still travel across Cyrodiil, where he toured before arriving in Skyrim, and that once he wins a lady, she stays won. In reality, the women he targets mostly look uncomfortable. Dialogue hints that he had to leave the Bards College after an affair with a headmistress.
Jon Battle-Born can’t stand him, calling him a disgrace to Nord bards who sings only for gold and women. If Mikael is killed, Ysolda is not pleased with you.
Good to know
He wrote the book A Gentleman’s Guide to Whiterun, in which he oddly describes himself as an Imperial. If he dies, his ashes go into an urn in the Whiterun Catacombs.
