Twilight Sepulcher is an ancient Nordic tomb far out on the western edge of the wilderness west of Falkreath, with nothing else nearby. It houses the Ebonmere, Nocturnal’s portal to the Evergloam, and is the rightful resting place of the Skeleton Key. The doors stay sealed until the Thieves Guild story sends you here for its final chapter, so don’t bother trying the handle early.
What you’ll find
- The Pilgrim’s Path, a maze of enemies and barriers that guards the way to the heart of the tomb.
- Nightingale Sentinels standing watch, plus Gallus Desidenius.
- Two parts: the main Twilight Sepulcher and the Twilight Sepulcher Inner Sanctum, where the Ebonmere lies.
- An alchemy lab.
- A “vacant beehive” to the right of the entrance holding some bees and a beehive husk.
Quests
In Darkness Returns you travel here with Karliah to put the Skeleton Key back where it belongs and face Nocturnal. Once the quest is done, you can return to the Inner Sanctum whenever you like to swap your Nightingale powers.
Notable items
- Proper Lock Design (Lockpicking skill book) on a table in a sunken area with water, shelves and decorations.
- Sacred Witness (Sneak skill book) on another table in that same area.
Tips
This is a Nightingales-only club, so your followers stay outside – though conjured helpers are still allowed, so pack a summon if you rely on one. Both skill books sit in the same pit, which is about as thief-friendly as level design gets. If you get stuck under the stairs after using the portal, keep jumping until you pop back onto the steps.
Good to know
After the Key is back in the Ebonmere, talk to Karliah and check her inventory: she will be carrying a big pile of arrows. Somebody came prepared.
