Broken Fang Cave

Small vampire den west-southwest of Whiterun with coffins, an arcane enchanter, an alchemy lab, two skill books and a tidy pile of alchemy ingredients.

Broken Fang Cave is a small vampire lair west-southwest of Whiterun, east-southeast of Rorikstead and south of Morthal. The entrance sits in a narrow gully between two rock formations. If you’re coming from Riverwood, cross the river heading northwest, pass Anise’s cabin and follow Brittleshin Pass. It’s short, but the vampires inside have furnished it surprisingly well.

What you’ll find

  • A short entrance tunnel and just two chambers – a quick clear once you’re ready for vampires.
  • The first room is a crypt of coffins and sarcophagi on raised platforms, littered with empty wine bottles and bones. Three skeletons are in this room too.
  • An adept-locked chest with random loot in the far left corner of the first room.
  • The second chamber is the vampires’ living space, with an arcane enchanter, an alchemy lab and a large bed.
  • Two vampires call this place home.

Quests

The cave can be chosen for several radiant quests, including Trouble in Skyrim, Rescue Mission, Family Heirloom and Culling the Beast for the Companions, Cleansing Light and Bloodthirst, as well as The Break of Dawn.

Tips

The cave is compact, so expect the two vampires to reach you quickly once the fight starts. Once they’re gone, this cave is a neat little workshop: enchanter and alchemy lab sit side by side, and the ingredients are practically laid out for you. The empty black soul gem is a nice bonus for anyone dabbling in serious enchanting. The decor – a heart on a plate and grapes on platters – suggests your hosts had very specific dinner party standards.
