Velehk Sain is a Dremora who calls himself the Pirate King of the Abecean. Captain of a ruthless pirate crew whose ship was rumoured to drive people mad, he is now stuck far from the sea – bound in the Midden Dark beneath the College of Winterhold.
Where to find them
He is held in the Midden Dark, below the College. According to a report found there, four students – Katarina, Treoy, Balwen and Pithiken – tried a summoning far beyond their skill and died of “Conjurer’s burn”. Velehk was the result, and a Daedric relic is part of the binding spell that keeps him on Mundus.
Quests
Velehk is the centre of the small quest Forgotten Names. Once freed from the binding, he admits the students’ souls are lost in Oblivion anyway and proposes a deal: let him go home to his ship, and he will tell you where he stashed loot from an Imperial galleon his crew sank. Release him by saying his name and he hands over a map; the treasure only appears when you get close. Refuse, or try to banish him, and you get a fight instead.
Personality & relationships
Velehk is arrogant, blunt and very much a pirate. He calls you “pup” and “meat”, is sure you cannot beat him, and still prefers striking a bargain to a brawl. He also has a point about names having power. Why a Daedra wants mortal gold is anybody’s guess.
Good to know
- If you kill him, he drops two scimitars, a Hammerfell garb, Redguard boots and a Daedra Heart – but his treasure never appears.
- Banish Daedra and Expel Daedra won’t send him away; they just drain his health.
- The release dialogue spells his name “Vehlek Sain”; everywhere else it is Velehk.
