Maurice Jondrelle is a Breton pilgrim travelling between Skyrim’s holy sites. He arrives at the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun hoping to worship under the Gildergreen – and is horrified to find it dead.
Where to find them
He is at the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun, where he complains to Danica Pure-Spring that letting the tree stay like that is disgraceful. If you take him along, he later appears at the Eldergleam Sanctuary.
Quests
The Blessings of Nature – after overhearing your talk with Danica, he asks to come with you to the sanctuary. Saying yes is optional. If he is there when you start hacking at the Eldergleam’s roots with Nettlebane, he objects and offers another way: he prays to the tree and receives an Eldergleam Sapling, so you don’t have to fight the Spriggans.
Personality & relationships
Maurice is devout and visibly moved when he finally reaches the sanctuary, which he says looks just like his dreams. He is also impatient and a bit prickly: heal him with Healing Hands and he grumbles that you think you’re better than him for casting a few spells.
Good to know
He travels without armor or weapons, can’t be told to wait, and his health doesn’t regenerate. He also likes to charge at creatures on the road, so he can easily die, which takes away the peaceful option. Keep him alive with spells like Heal Other or Grand Healing. If you don’t approach him near Danica, he may never start the conversation, so walk up to him yourself.
