Eorlund Gray-Mane is widely considered the best blacksmith in Skyrim. He works the Skyforge, the ancient forge up the stairs north of Jorrvaskr in Whiterun, making weapons and armor for the Companions – though he isn’t actually a member himself.
Family
The Gray-Manes are one of Whiterun’s two big Nord clans (the other being the Battle-Borns) and strong Stormcloak supporters. Eorlund is married to Fralia, who sells his jewelry in the Plains District, and their children are Avulstein, Thorald and Olfina. His brother Vignar becomes Jarl if the Stormcloaks take Whiterun. Thorald’s disappearance is a sore subject: Fralia believes he’s alive, Eorlund doesn’t.
Role in the Companions questline
He crafts the Companions’ Skyforge Steel and, in Glory of the Dead, reforges the shattered axe Wuuthrad. He’s essential until that quest is completed.

Blacksmith merchant and Master-level Smithing trainer. Skyforge Steel weapons become available from him as you progress.
