House of Clan Battle-Born

Large Whiterun home of the proudly Imperial-leaning Clan Battle-Born, with three generations under one roof, a locked office and a Two-Handed skill book.

The House of Clan Battle-Born is the big family home of Clan Battle-Born in Whiterun. Three generations of this warrior clan live here, and their roots in the city go back centuries; they also own the Battle-Born Farm outside the walls. Their ties to Skyrim and the old Nord ways are beyond question – and they rarely let you forget it. Most visitors, however, come for one locked room and the letter inside it.

What you’ll find

  • Olfrid Battle-Born – the head of the household. His bedroom to the northwest shows off some valuables and has a locked door to a small office.
  • Alfhild, Bergritte, Idolaf, Jon and Lars Battle-Born – the rest of the clan.
  • A “Protected” Shadowmark to the right of the back door.
  • Plenty of reading material scattered through the house.

Quests

Missing in Action – you need the Imperial Missive from the desk in Olfrid’s locked office. Pick the lock or pickpocket the key. After the Thieves Guild quest Imitation Amnesty, Olfrid pledges the clan’s full support to the Thieves Guild.

Notable items

  • Battle of Sancre Tor – Two-Handed skill book on a bookshelf in the west room on the first floor.
  • Imperial Missive (quest item) in Olfrid’s office.
  • The Real Barenziah, Books I, II and IV.
  • The Great War, The Arcturian Heresy and Brief History of the Empire, Book I.

Tips

The office lock is the main obstacle for Missing in Action, so either bring lockpicks and patience or practise your Pickpocket skill on whoever has the key, ideally while they are busy or asleep. Grab the Two-Handed book on the way out – it’s free experience. Don’t count too much on that Protected Shadowmark, though: Vex can still send you here to steal for her radiant thievery jobs. Protection, it seems, has fine print.
