Froki Whetted-Blade is an elderly Nord hunter who lives far from city walls in Froki’s Shack with his grandson Haming. He is a proud follower of the old Nordic gods, especially Kyne, and he has no patience for the ‘stolen’ Eight Divines or the city folk who worship them. Expect to be called a city rat within seconds of walking in.
Where to find them
Froki stays at his shack. For a self-described hunter he never actually seems to leave the hut, and despite sharing it with Haming the place only has one bed.
Quests
- Kyne’s Sacred Trials – if you show interest in the old ways, Froki anoints you to hunt seven spectral guardian beasts in three rounds: skeever, wolf and mudcrab; then bear, sabre cat and mammoth; and finally a troll. Finish them and you earn the Blessing of Kyne and Froki’s friendship. He warns you not to laugh at the guardian skeever.
- Froki’s Bow – during the trials you can find his old bow in Graywinter Watch. He made it himself, but tells you to keep it, since his great hunts are over and yours are not.
- Sovngarde – if Froki has died before you reach Sovngarde, you can meet him there in the mists.
Personality & relationships
Froki’s son Torolf lived in Helgen and died when Alduin attacked, leaving Haming an orphan. Froki took the boy in and calls it a second chance, admitting he was not a great father the first time. According to Haming, he cannot cook. He describes Kyne as Shor’s widow, mother of men and beasts, whose veil is the storm, and he dismisses the Temple’s Kynareth as a pale copy.
Good to know
He is the only friendly character in Skyrim who still openly worships the Nordic pantheon.
