Torolf was a Nord lumberjack living in Helgen with his wife Matlara and their son Haming. He is also the son of Froki Whetted-Blade, the old hermit of Froki’s Shack. His death is one of the most memorable moments of Skyrim’s opening.
Where to find them
He’s in Helgen during the opening. As the Imperial procession comes through town, he’s outside with Haming.
Quests
In Unbound, Torolf first shoos Haming indoors as the soldiers pass – the boy wants to watch, Torolf is having none of it. Later, after Alduin smashes through the tower wall during your escape, Haming can be heard begging his father to get up. Hadvar shouts for Haming to come to him just as Torolf is killed in the attack, then leaves the boy with Gunnar Stone-Eye.
If you’re quick enough to reach him first, you can hear Torolf telling his “little cub” to run and to make him proud, though he rarely gets to finish. Getting close can even make Alduin fly away – but Torolf dies regardless.
Personality & relationships
A protective dad whose last words are for his son. Haming survives and ends up with his grandfather Froki.
