Objectives
- Find out how to defeat Alduin
- Gain admittance to the Hall of Valor
- Talk to the heroes of Sovngarde
Sovngarde is the Nordic afterlife – the land where honoured warriors feast forever in Shor’s Hall of Valor. But Alduin has turned it into a hunting ground, covering it in a soul-eating mist so he can devour the dead and grow stronger. You step into Sovngarde through the portal at Skuldafn, alive, to put an end to that.
Walkthrough
The mist
Walk down from where you arrive. You will meet a lost soul – a Stormcloak soldier – who explains that the mist keeps the dead from reaching the Hall of Valor, and that Alduin hunts anyone who wanders in it. Follow the path through the fog. Use Clear Skies to push the mist back if you lose your way.
Familiar faces
Depending on what you have done in Skyrim, you may meet souls you know along the way – fallen leaders and heroes from questlines you have finished. Take a moment to listen to them.
Tsun and the Whalebone Bridge
At the end of the path, the Hall of Valor towers on the far side of a deep chasm, reachable only over the Whalebone Bridge. Its guardian is Tsun, the Nordic god of trials. He asks who you are and why you have come – and expects you to prove yourself worthy before you may cross.
The Hall of Valor
Inside the great hall, the legendary heroes of the Nords celebrate – including Ysgramor himself. Talk to them about Alduin. Three heroes are especially eager to help: Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Hakon One-Eye and Felldir the Old – the same heroes you saw in the vision in Alduin’s Bane. They are ready to face Alduin one more time, which starts Dragonslayer.
Tips
- You cannot leave Sovngarde until the main quest is finished, so enjoy the view.
- Talking to the heroes in the Hall of Valor is optional but full of great lore.
