The Jagged Crown is a unique heavy helmet and one of the most famous relics in Skyrim. Made from the bones and teeth of ancient dragons, it is said to be the first official crown worn by the kings of Skyrim, dating back to King Harald in the First Era. It has no enchantment at all; its power is entirely political.
How to get it
You recover the crown during the Civil War quest The Jagged Crown, whichever side you joined.
- Join the Stormcloaks or the Imperial Legion.
- Get sent to Korvanjund by Galmar Stone-Fist or Legate Rikke.
- Fight through the soldiers of the other side and the draugr in the crypt.
- Defeat King Borgas, who rises as a draugr and still wears the crown, and take it from him.
- Bring it back to your side. Stormcloaks want it for Ulfric, Imperials to back Elisif the Fair.
Is it worth wearing?
Mostly for roleplay. Its base armor rating of 23 matches a Daedric helmet, which sounds great early on, but it cannot be improved at a workbench, so it falls behind fully tempered helmets in the late game. It weighs 9 and has no enchantment, so you are not getting any bonuses either. On the plus side it is worth 5000 gold on paper, though you will normally hand it over to your faction anyway.
If you want a crown that actually does something, a Dragon Priest mask such as Konahrik beats it in every practical way. But for a would-be High King, nothing else looks the part.
Good to know
- Owning the crown does not make anyone king by law; it is a symbol of legitimacy.
- The last king to wear it was Borgas, killed in the Wild Hunt of 1E 369 and secretly buried with it.
- It cannot be tempered at a workbench, whatever perks you have.
