Thonnir is a Nord who works at Jorgen‘s mill in Morthal. He is a tired, bitter man: his wife Laelette disappeared without a word, and he believes she left him and their son to join the war. He says he would leave Morthal if it were in his power.
Where to find them
He works at the mill and lives with his son Virkmund in their house in town.
Quests
Laid to Rest: after you investigate Hroggar‘s burned house, talking to Thonnir moves the quest forward. He recalls that Laelette suddenly started spending time with Alva, a woman she had despised only a week earlier, and that she was supposed to meet Alva the night she vanished. When you suggest Alva might be a vampire he flatly refuses to believe it, preferring to think the marsh claimed his wife. Once the truth comes out, he is the only one of the Jarl’s volunteers who does not lose his nerve at Movarth’s Lair. He wants revenge for Laelette and will fight beside you, or wait outside if you tell him to.
Rescue missions (Dawnguard): he can be picked as the captive in one of the rescue jobs from Florentius Baenius, held by a master vampire.
Personality & relationships
Thonnir feels the war has cost him everything and agonises over his boy growing up without a mother. He and Jorgen also nag the steward Aslfur about the wizard Falion, complaining that Morthal has enough problems already.
Good to know
If you take him along to the lair but never finish the quest, he keeps tagging along as an unkillable helper who doesn’t use a follower slot. You can’t give him orders or swap his gear properly, but he makes a decent decoy. Turn into a werewolf, though, and he attacks you on sight.
