Alva looks like one more bored resident of Morthal, a Nord woman who wanders the town after dark and flirts with anyone who will listen. In reality she is a vampire, sent by her master and beloved Movarth to put down roots in the town, turn a few locals and feed on the rest.
Where to find them
She lives in her own house in Morthal together with Hroggar. At night she strolls around town or drops into the Moorside Inn; by day she sleeps in a coffin in her basement. She can also turn up in Movarth’s Lair at night.
Quests
Alva is the hidden mastermind of Laid to Rest, the quest about the fire that killed Hroggar’s wife and daughter. Mention the talk that Hroggar burned down his own home for her and she seems thrilled by such devotion. Once you have dealt with Laelette, the wife of Thonnir, and learned she was a vampire, the trail leads to Alva’s basement. She rises from her coffin and attacks unless you sneak in. Her journal, lying in the coffin, spells out the plan: she turned Laelette into her servant, ordered her to dispose of Hroggar’s family, seduced Hroggar as a daytime guard, and intended to enslave the town guards so Movarth’s coven could move in.
Personality & relationships
Alva is openly contemptuous of the townsfolk, comparing them to cattle who only work, eat and sleep. She teases Jonna at the inn and tries her luck with Benor and Gorm, who both turn her down on Hroggar’s account. Hroggar himself is completely under her spell. Her journal, though, suggests that she once longed for real love.
Good to know
- She wears Tavern Clothes, a rare outfit, so Laid to Rest is the easiest way to get a set.
- Alva is technically a Nord rather than a vampire by race, so she lacks the red eyes, yet she still uses vampire magic and is hurt by sunlight and anti-undead effects.
- If you leave her alive and head to Movarth’s Lair, she may show up there and even fight beside you, or be killed by the other vampires.
