Colette Marence is a Breton mage at the College of Winterhold who specialises in Restoration and will make sure you know it. Her very first question to you is whether you consider Restoration a valid school of magic. Answer carefully.
Where to find them
She lives and works at the College. Now and then she gives a lecture in the Hall of the Elements, where most of the College gathers to listen, and she can be seen practising spells like Grand Healing in her room.
Quests
When your Restoration skill reaches 90, Colette starts the Restoration Ritual Spell quest. She is quietly proud of your devotion and sends you to the Augur of Dunlain for the real test. During Good Intentions she can share the rumour about the Augur’s tragic experiment, and suggests asking Tolfdir for the real story.
Services
Colette trains Restoration up to Expert level and sells Restoration spell tomes, plus mage apparel that boosts Restoration and Magicka.
Personality & relationships
Colette is convinced her colleagues sneer at her field. She complains about nasty notes left in her bed, on her desk and even in her meals, though none can be found, and when pressed she admits nobody has actually treated her badly to her face. Her lecture argues passionately that Restoration matters: it keeps draugr and other undead at bay, and wards save lives every day.
No other mage at the College actually says a bad word about Restoration, and Tolfdir even teaches a class on wards, so her persecution complex may be mostly in her head. She’s polite to you throughout, as long as you agree with her.
Good to know
During The Staff of Magnus she won’t hold a conversation and only frets about saving the College.
