Octieve San

Elderly Breton gambler and drinker in Solitude, looked after by his daughter Evette, who needs help clearing his debt and can be married.
“You want know the one truth I’ve learned in all my years? Life’s too hard to face sober.”

Octieve San is an elderly Breton living in retirement in Solitude. His daughter Evette San works hard to keep them both fed, while Octieve drinks and gambles – and has piled up a hefty debt in the process.

Where to find them

He moves between Evette San’s House, The Winking Skeever and the Temple of the Divines.

Quests

A Few Words with You: Octieve owes money to Irnskar Ironhand and asks you to talk him into forgiving the debt. Help him out and he offers Two-Handed training as thanks.

Follower & marriage

Octieve can’t follow you, but he is a marriage candidate: wear an Amulet of Mara and you can propose. Whether that’s a good idea is between you and your bank account.

Personality & relationships

Octieve claims old age isn’t so bad, since his working days are over and someone else keeps him fed. His lifelong lesson is that life is simply too hard to face sober. At home he’s not the most helpful dad – Evette asks him to tidy up while she’s out, and he answers with a lazy “maybe”, then complains when she comes home without any mead.

Good to know

Octieve is a Breton while Evette is a Nord, which has never been explained. If you kill Evette, Octieve is likely to send hired thugs after you, and if he dies after you’ve helped him, he leaves you a small inheritance.
