Marise Aravel is a Dunmer who earns her living selling meat and produce in the market of Riften. Her wares are famously fresh, and she guards the secret behind it like a family recipe. Her gloomy manner doesn’t win her many friends in town, though she’s not without admirers.
Where to find them
She works her market stall during the day and lives in her own house just off the lower level of Riften’s canal.
Quests
Ice Cold – ask how she keeps her food so fresh and she reveals a trick learned from a butcher in Elinhir, over the border in Hammerfell: ground Ice Wraith Teeth work as a preservative. She wants five of them. She suggests Ancient’s Ascent as a hunting ground for ice wraiths, with a casual warning that a dragon may live there. Bring her the teeth and she pays you in trade.
Services
Marise mainly sells food, plus a few miscellaneous items, and with Hearthfire she also stocks jugs of milk (Hearthfire). Don’t plan on unloading much loot on her: she carries very little gold, and the Master Trader perk doesn’t raise it.
Personality & relationships
Marise has no love for the Thieves Guild or the Ratway they lurk in, and isn’t shy about saying so. Some locals dislike her enough that a dropped item can start a scuffle with Mjoll the Lioness or Brand-Shei. Her softer side belongs to Shadr: she happily accepts his nervous invitation to a drink, and asks Dinya Balu whether Mara would mind her marrying someone who isn’t a Dunmer. She buys fish on credit from Bolli, passes dragon rumours to Maven Black-Briar, and has been telling people Nivenor only married Bolli for his money.
