Rimerock Burrow

Short cave far west of Solitude, south of Northwatch Keep, home to the conjurer Sebastian Lort, the Rueful Axe and an arcane enchanter.

Rimerock Burrow is a tiny cave tucked into the remote northwestern corner of the map, south of Northwatch Keep and far west of Solitude. It is about as short as dungeons get: one atronach, one powerful conjurer and a handful of books. Its real draw is the quest that ends here and the arcane enchanter waiting in the back.

What you’ll find

  • Sebastian Lort, a powerful conjurer who lives here.
  • A single leveled atronach summoned to keep you busy.
  • An arcane enchanter.
  • Several books lying around, including The Wolf Queen, Books II and V, and The Real Barenziah, Book II.

Quests

  • A Daedra’s Best Friend – Barbas leads you here to recover the Rueful Axe from Sebastian Lort.
  • Possible location for Shalidor’s Insights.
  • Possible location for Meridia’s Beacon, which starts The Break of Dawn.
  • Possible location for one of the Rings of Blood Magic.

Notable items

  • Unique weapon: the Rueful Axe (quest item).
  • Conjuration skill book 2920, Hearth Fire.

Tips

Sebastian Lort leans hard on summoning, so closing in quickly and taking him down before his atronach can grind you is usually the cleanest approach. Once he is dealt with, use the enchanter before you leave – you came all this way, after all. He comes back when the dungeon resets, but the Rueful Axe does not, so there is no second copy to farm.

One warning: do not ride your horse off the cliff above the cave – the horse dies, and dropping into the cave that way can leave you stuck. Take the normal path in.
