Noster’s Helmet

A plain light helmet lost by the Solitude beggar Noster Eagle-Eye, hidden in a random cave in Haafingar and returned as a small act of kindness.

Noster’s Helmet is a unique light helmet with no enchantment. It belongs to Noster Eagle-Eye, the old veteran who begs on the streets of Solitude. He would very much like his helmet back, and frankly, after hearing his stories, so would you.

How to get it

Talk to Noster in Solitude to learn about the lost helmet. Its location is randomized among caves in Haafingar:

Follow the marker, collect the helmet and bring it back to Noster. It is a short errand and a nice way to explore Haafingar.

Is it worth wearing?

Not for stats. An armor rating of 11 and a weight of 2 put it firmly in early-game territory, and with no enchantment there is nothing to disenchant. Even basic leather and elven helmets do the same job and can be improved further. Think of it as a good-deed collectible rather than gear.

That said, it is a pleasant little quest. Noster is one of the more memorable characters in Solitude, full of grumbling and old war stories, and returning his helmet is a nice break from saving the world. The caves involved are all fairly close to the city, so you can tick this off in one short trip, possibly while doing other jobs around Haafingar. If you are a collector who likes to fill display shelves, though, note that the helmet ends up on display elsewhere rather than staying with you.

Good to know

  • After completing the quest, the helmet shows up in the Winking Skeever, on a shelf next to Corpulus Vinius.
  • Noster is also a handy target for the Speech trick of giving gold to beggars.
  • The caves can hold bandits, so do not go in wearing only the helmet.
