Greenspring Hollow is a tiny hunters’ shelter southwest of Dustman’s Cairn. Whoever camped here last did not survive – a dead hunter and a skeleton lie among the bedrolls – and a leveled predator, often a sabre cat, may still be hanging around. Stop by for the hides, the ore and a bit of free loot, ideally with your weapon already drawn.
What you’ll find
- A leveled predatory animal that attacks if you get close.
- A dead hunter, a skeleton and blood-spattered bedrolls (which you cannot sleep in, sadly).
- A tanning rack and a pile of hides: 3 deer pelts, 2 goat hides, 2 wolf pelts, 2 sabre cat pelts and a cow hide.
- One gold ore vein.
- Some fungi, and a beehive on a nearby tree with honeycomb.
- A locked chest, an Apothecary’s Satchel hidden among the rocks and a leveled bow.
Quests
Possible location for the “Animal Extermination” radiant quest, handed out by Aela the Huntress. Take the quest before you clear the hollow – if the beast is already dead when Aela sends you, the quest reportedly cannot be finished.
Notable items
- The Argonian Account, Book II
- Gold ore vein
- Leveled bow
- Apothecary’s Satchel with random loot
Tips
All those hides make the hollow a nice raid for house-building materials (Hearthfire). Just be aware that the deer pelts are not the same as deer hides and are useless for crafting – a mix-up many players have made at the tanning rack. Bring a pickaxe for the gold vein, and approach slowly: the resident cat sees the hollow as its pantry and you as the next delivery. The Apothecary’s Satchel is tucked among the rocks, so give the area a proper look before you leave – the hollow is small, but it hides its goodies well.
