Sabre Cat

Sabre Cats are Skyrim's fastest early-game killers. Where they hunt, the snowy variant, and what you can harvest from them.

The Sabre Cat is the reason many new characters die on the road between towns. It’s fast, it hits hard, and you usually hear the growl about a second before it reaches you. The pale Snowy Sabre Cat is the tougher cousin found in colder areas.

Where to find them

Open wilderness all over Skyrim – the tundra of Whiterun Hold for the regular kind, and the snowfields of the north for the Snowy Sabre Cat.

Abilities & attacks

  • Very fast sprint and leaping attacks
  • Strong claw and bite damage
  • Can infect you with the disease Witbane

How to beat it

You can't outrun it, but it turns slowly – sidestep its charges and strike while it swings around. Sabre cats dislike water, so wading in gives you a safe spot to fight or escape. Block with a shield, keep a rock or tree at your back, and cure Witbane at a shrine afterwards.

Loot & harvestables

Sabre Cat Pelt / Snowy Sabre Cat Pelt / Vale Sabre Cat Hide (always)
Eye of Sabre Cat or Sabre Cat Tooth (always)
Minor loot (sometimes)
