The Dawnguard War Axe is the vampire hunters’ one-handed axe from the Dawnguard add-on. It has 11 base damage and a built-in effect that deals 5 extra damage to vampires, which is exactly what the Dawnguard ordered.
It pairs naturally with Dawnguard Armor and makes a solid sidearm for anyone hunting the undead.

Where to find
- Dawnguard side: inside Fort Dawnguard and along its battlements.
- Outside Ruunvald Excavation, inside a tent.
- Vampire side (Volkihar Clan): loot it from Dawnguard members such as vampire hunters and scouts.
- It cannot be crafted.
Crafting and upgrading
This weapon cannot be crafted at a forge – you have to find, loot or buy it.

Tips and notes
- Tempered with a Steel Ingot; Steel Smithing doubles the improvement.
- You can enchant it on top of its innate effect. The new enchantment won’t show in the menu, but it works.
- With the Extra Effect perk that means three effects in total, and more with tricks like the Notched Pickaxe enchantment.
- It cannot be disenchanted to learn the anti-vampire effect.
