Sovngarde

Sovngarde is the Nordic afterlife – the golden realm of Shor's Hall of Valor, guarded by Tsun at the Whalebone Bridge, and the site of the final battle with Alduin.

Sovngarde is the afterlife of the Nords – a golden, otherworldly realm where the souls of honoured warriors go after death. At its heart stands the Hall of Valor, Shor’s great mead hall, where the greatest heroes of Skyrim feast and fight forever.

What you will find

  • The Hall of Valor – Shor’s hall, home to legendary heroes such as Ysgramor.
  • The Whalebone Bridge – the only way across the chasm to the hall, guarded by Tsun, the Nordic god of trials.
  • Familiar souls – depending on your choices in Skyrim, you may meet people you knew in life.

Alduin’s mist

When you arrive, Sovngarde is not the paradise it should be. Alduin has covered the land in a thick, soul-eating mist, trapping the dead and hunting them to make himself stronger.

Role in the story

You enter Sovngarde alive through the portal at Skuldafn. In Sovngarde you cross the mist and reach the Hall of Valor, and in Dragonslayer you join the heroes of old to defeat Alduin once and for all.

Good to know

You can only visit Sovngarde during the end of the main quest – once you leave, there is no way back. Take a good look around.
