Dragonslayer

Dragonslayer: the final battle of Skyrim's main quest. Clear Alduin's mist with the heroes of Sovngarde and defeat the World-Eater for good. Tips and rewards.

Objectives

  1. Help the heroes of Sovngarde dispel Alduin's mist
  2. Defeat Alduin

Dragonslayer is the final quest of Skyrim’s main story. Together with three legendary heroes of old, you face Alduin the World-Eater in Sovngarde – and this time, there is no Elder Scroll to send him away. It ends here.

Walkthrough

Clearing the mist

Leave the Hall of Valor with Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Hakon One-Eye and Felldir the Old and cross the Whalebone Bridge. Alduin hides in his mist, so you need to drive it away. Shout Clear Skies together with the heroes. Alduin answers by bringing the mist back – twice. On the third combined shout, his power breaks and he comes down to fight.

Alduin’s fall

Use Dragonrend as soon as you can to pull Alduin out of the sky, then attack with everything you have. Keep using Dragonrend whenever he takes off again – it also helps keep the heroes alive. Alduin is very tough, so keep healing potions or spells ready.

The end of the World-Eater

When Alduin falls, his body breaks apart in a storm of light. Unlike every other dragon, you do not absorb his soul. Afterwards, the heroes of Sovngarde honour you, and Tsun offers to send you back to the world of the living.

The epilogue

You return to the summit of the Throat of the World, where dragons circle in the sky and land around Paarthurnax – a moment many players never forget.

Rewards

  • Call of Valor shout – summon a hero of Sovngarde to fight beside you
  • The title of Dragonslayer – and the end of the main quest

Tips

  • Bring a good bow or ranged spells as backup in case you run low on Shout cooldown.
  • After the main quest, Skyrim stays open – dragons still roam, and there is plenty left to do.
