Lake Ilinalta is a big lake in Falkreath Hold, north of Falkreath. It is one of the largest inland waters in Skyrim, matched only by Lake Honrich, and it feeds the White River, the longest river in the province. Come for the scenery and the quests, and stay because Hearthfire lets you build a house on its shore.
What you’ll find
- Ilinalta’s Deep, an Imperial outpost on the western shore that collapsed into the lake. Locals thought it was haunted, which is exactly why necromancer Malyn Varen moved in to experiment on Azura’s Star.
- The wreck of the Silvermoon on the lakebed, plus an unmarked shipwreck south of the Lady Stone. How a ship got into a landlocked lake is anyone’s guess.
- An unmarked ruin in the water southwest of Anise’s Cabin.
- Two small islands at the east end. The easternmost has a corundum ore vein and, with Hearthfire, a clay deposit.
- The Guardian Stones up a slope on the eastern shore, and several hunter camps around the water.
- Slaughterfish in the water and mudcrabs on the banks.
Quests
The Black Star takes you into Ilinalta’s Deep, and The Great Skyrim Treasure Hunt also passes by the lake.
Tips
- (Hearthfire) Lakeview Manor can be built on the land south of the lake.
- Swim fast, or not at all. The slaughterfish love a slow swimmer.
- Stop by the eastern island for corundum ore if you’re gathering homestead materials.
