Heartwood Mill is a lumber mill on the shore of Lake Honrich, a small family business that has seen better days. Grosta and Leifnarr run it and live here with their son Gralnach – or they did, until Leifnarr vanished. Grosta fears the mill won’t survive more than a few seasons without him.
What you’ll find
- Grosta and Gralnach, with Leifnarr notably absent.
- Patrols by the local guards.
- A grindstone and a tanning rack.
- A Nirnroot northeast of the bridge and four Pine Thrush nests (handy for Pine Thrush Eggs).
- A clay deposit nearby, and lumber for sale from Grosta (Hearthfire).
Quests
Flight or Fight – talk to Grosta and she’ll ask you to find her missing husband. It’s a miscellaneous quest rather than a big storyline, but for this family it’s everything: by Grosta’s own account, money is already tight and the business won’t last long without Leifnarr.
Tips
If you’re building a house in Hearthfire, Grosta is a convenient source of lumber, and the clay deposit is right there. There’s a random encounter spot on the road just west of the family’s house, so if hostile travellers spawn there, they may wander into the mill and start trouble – keep an eye on the residents. Oddly, the mill has no chopping block even though Grosta wants firewood. Herbalists should swing by at least once: the Nirnroot is easy to find near the bridge, and the thrush nests are a quick bonus while you’re in the area.
Good to know
The mill sits right on the lake shore, so it makes a handy waypoint when you’re exploring the area around Riften or heading for Goldenglow Estate out on its islands.
