Journeyman’s Nook is a small stone ruin southeast of Winterhold. It is the kind of place you stumble upon while walking somewhere else, and it tells a short, grim story: Borvir, one of the students who went missing from the College of Winterhold, lies dead here, and the lone bandit standing over him is the obvious suspect.
What you’ll find
- A single bandit – no gang, no chief, just one person with a very guilty look.
- The body of Borvir, still carrying Borvir’s Dagger.
- An alchemy lab, a knapsack, an apothecary’s satchel and a few potions.
- An open ruin with no interior, so the whole place can be explored in a minute or two.
Quests
Borvir is tied to The Missing Apprentices, a College quest about students who never came back. That quest is broken and cannot be completed as intended, so his body here is mostly a sad footnote rather than a quest objective.
Notable items
- Herbalist’s Guide to Skyrim, an Alchemy skill book.
- Treasure Map II.
- Borvir’s Dagger.
Tips
Since there is an alchemy lab right here, this is a handy roadside stop to brew potions with whatever you have picked up in the snow. Read the Herbalist’s Guide on the spot for a free Alchemy boost before you start mixing. The bandit and the contents of the knapsack and satchel respawn over time, so the Nook is worth a quick look whenever you pass by; Borvir, his dagger and the skill book, however, are one-time finds.
Good to know
On top of the structure, to the left of the entrance, there is a rock that is only a flat picture. From the west you can see it and even stand on it, but from the east it is invisible and you can walk straight through it – a little peek behind the curtain of Skyrim’s scenery.
