Frostflow Abyss

Icy Falmer cave beneath Frostflow Lighthouse in Winterhold, full of Chaurus hatcheries, hundreds of Chaurus eggs and the finale of the Frostflow Abyss quest.

Frostflow Abyss is a frozen cave system reached through the basement of Frostflow Lighthouse on the Winterhold coast. It’s a winding underground maze held by Falmer and Chaurus, and its deeper caverns are full-blown Chaurus hatcheries. Come for the quest, stay for the absurd number of eggs.

What you’ll find

  • A locked basement door in the lighthouse – find the key or pick the expert lock.
  • An icy, twisting path that drops into several large caverns used as Chaurus hatcheries.
  • Falmer, Chaurus and Frostbite Spiders.
  • A quicksilver ore vein in the second chamber, among the egg sacs.
  • Over 500 Chaurus Eggs, 40+ Glowing Mushrooms and 30+ White Caps – an alchemist’s dream.

Quests

This is where Frostflow Abyss plays out. It can also be the target of the Companions’ Rescue Mission radiant quest from Skjor or Vilkas at Jorrvaskr.

Notable items

  • A knapsack with random loot around a blind corner on the right in the first chamber.
  • A Falmer chest hidden behind cobwebs on the left in the third room.

Tips

Bring an empty pack and some patience: harvesting hundreds of egg sacs takes a while, but alchemists won’t find a better stockpile. If a locked Falmer chest seems empty after you open it, try activating it again.
