Goldenglow Estate

Island apiary on Lake Honrich near Riften that supplies Black-Briar honey, owned by Aringoth, guarded by mercenaries and targeted by the Thieves Guild.

Goldenglow Estate is a large estate and bee farm spread over a cluster of bridged islands in Lake Honrich, just outside Riften. Its honey is the main supply for Maven Black-Briar‘s meadery, so it matters a great deal to some very rich, very touchy people. The owner, an Altmer called Aringoth, has hired mercenaries to keep both grounds and house safe.

What you’ll find

  • Mercenaries patrolling outside and inside the house. They ignore passing adventurers but attack members of the Thieves Guild.
  • Aringoth in his room on the second floor.
  • The beehives on an island southwest of the main building, buzzing with bees and honeycomb.
  • Goldenglow Estate Sewer, entered on the northwest shore near a mercenary walkway, plus the basement and second floor.

Quests

  • Loud and Clear – the Thieves Guild sends you to hit the estate.
  • The Litany of Larceny – the Queen Bee Statue is a possible target.
  • Captured Critters – a Bee in a Jar sits on a shelf in Aringoth’s room.

Notable items

  • Queen Bee Statue on the table by Aringoth’s bed.
  • Guide to Better Thieving (Pickpocket) behind a locked gate in the sewer.
  • Goldenglow Bill of Sale in Aringoth’s safe.
  • A refined moonstone in a locked strongbox on the first floor.

Tips

Until Loud and Clear is active, invisible barriers keep you away from the house, so don’t waste time trying to sneak in early. The sewer is the classic quiet entrance. Inside, the mercenaries are numerous, so Sneak and a good bow do a lot of the work. If you’re a thief, remember: the guards outside know who you work for. Grab the Bill of Sale from Aringoth’s safe – it’s a quest item – and check the first-floor strongbox for the moonstone before you leave.

Good to know

A spot in the basement, immediately to the right where two bookcases lean together and two stools are stacked, used to let sneaking characters go unnoticed right under the mercenaries’ noses – handy for Sneak training. Reportedly it no longer works with all expansions installed.
