Elmus’ Mead is a short Dragonborn errand for Elmus, one of the Nords living in exile at Bujold’s Retreat on Solstheim. Life down at the retreat is grim, and Elmus figures the best cure for misery is the special brew he used to drink back home: Ashfire Mead, made at Thirsk Mead Hall. Since he cannot go back himself, he asks you to fetch a bottle.
How to start
Talk to Elmus at Bujold’s Retreat and ask whether anything would make life in exile easier to bear. He answers with one word, mead, and then remembers how much he misses the Ashfire brewed at Thirsk. If you could get up there and grab a bottle, he says, he would be well on the way to forgetting how wretched things are.
Walkthrough
Get the Ashfire Mead
Travel to Thirsk Mead Hall. The hall is occupied by Rieklings, but they are not hostile during this errand, so you can walk in without a fight. Look near the mead barrels inside the hall; a few bottles of Ashfire Mead sit close by. Take one.
Alternative: buy a bottle
If you would rather not make the trip, visit The Retching Netch in Raven Rock. Geldis Sadri, who runs the cornerclub, may have Ashfire Mead for sale. Stock varies, so it is not guaranteed.
Return to Elmus
Bring the bottle back to Bujold’s Retreat and hand it to Elmus. He recognises the taste straight away, calls you a good friend to Thirsk and to him, and pays you for the trouble.
Rewards
- A leveled amount of gold.
- One happier exile.
Tips and notes
- Do this quest before you finish Retaking Thirsk. Completing that quest while Elmus’ Mead is still active makes it fail.
- Elmus has another favour as well: see Elmus’ Berries.
- After Thirsk is retaken, the smith there has his own job for you in Halbarn’s Supplies.
- Ashfire Mead is a Thirsk speciality, so the hall is the most reliable place to find it.
