Snow Bear Pelt

Snow Bear Pelt is the most valuable bear pelt in Skyrim, taken from fearsome snow bears in the frozen north.

Snow Bear Pelt comes from the snow bear, a white brute that hits harder than most early bandits and has a habit of appearing out of a blizzard. At 75 gold and weight 3 it is the priciest of the animal pelts, and it tans into 4 Leather. It also counts for the Grin and Bear It quest and the Animal Pelt Collection, just like the other bear pelts.

How to get it

Hunt snow bears in the Pale, Winterhold and the mountains around Windhelm. Hunters and Orc hunters carry them, and general goods merchants such as Belethor and Grelka sell them.

The Abandoned Lodge holds 7 loose pelts, and there are 2 each in Valthume and Gallows Rock. Singles lie in Largashbur, Ysgramor’s Tomb, Bits and Pieces in Solitude, the Heljarchen Hall cellar and outdoors near the Reach Imperial Camp.

Whether to sell or tan comes down to your plans: 75 gold in hand, or 4 Leather for Hide, Leather or Elven armor. For a smith on a budget the leather wins, since buying 4 Leather from a blacksmith usually costs more than the pelt sells for.
