Nahagliiv

A named dragon once loyal to Alduin, buried and later resurrected on a hill above Rorikstead, where he circles the village looking for trouble.

Nahagliiv was one of Alduin‘s servants long ago, and after he was killed he was laid to rest in a burial mound on a hill overlooking Rorikstead. Once Alduin returns, he gets resurrected like many of his kin. His name translates to Fury-Burn-Wither, which is a fair summary of how farmers in the area feel about him.

Unlike Sahloknir or Mirmulnir, Nahagliiv has no real role in the main story; he is simply a named dragon roaming his corner of the map. His form scales with the player’s level, so he can appear as any type of dragon.

Where to find him

After his resurrection, Nahagliiv circles Rorikstead in Whiterun Hold and generally stays close to his mound. He does wander a little: players have found him fighting the Forsworn at Serpent’s Bluff Redoubt and battling vampires at Moldering Ruins. With the dragon right next to a village, guards and townsfolk often join the fight.

Resurrection

If you reach his mound before the quest Elder Knowledge begins, you can witness the ritual yourself: Alduin circles overhead and calls Nahagliiv back in the dragon tongue. A quick player can even interrupt Alduin and drive him off before he finishes. In that case the mound stays sealed for the time being, but Nahagliiv is already awake inside. Shouting nearby or striking the ground over his grave prompts a unique line from beneath the earth, in which he tells you to speak only if you have something worth hearing. Followers react by drawing their weapons, even though the dragon is still buried.

Notes

  • In the Dragonborn add-on he is one of the dragons that can be ridden after using Bend Will.
  • When travelling with Serana at night, guards may see her as a hostile vampire; fighting Nahagliiv in daylight and away from the village avoids that mess.
  • He drops dragon bones and dragon scales.

Abilities & attacks

How to beat it

Nahagliiv can use both fire and frost breath, so bring general protection rather than a single resistance. Fight him in open country near his mound rather than inside Rorikstead, where guards and villagers get caught in the crossfire. Ranged attacks while he circles and melee once he lands work as with any dragon. If Serana is with you, wait for daytime so the guards don’t turn on her.
