The Torturer is an old Imperial Legionnaire of the Imperial Legion who works the torture room on the lowest floor of the keep in Helgen. He wears Imperial light armour but trades the helmet for a distinctive Torturer’s Hood, and although he carries a steel dagger, he prefers to fight with Destruction magic.
Where to find them
Deep inside Helgen Keep, in the torture chamber you pass through while escaping. He works there with his assistant.
Quests
He’s part of Unbound, and how you meet him depends on who you followed. With Hadvar, you find him and his assistant under attack from escaping Stormcloaks. Survive that, and he brushes off Hadvar’s warning about a dragon as nonsense, says the boy has no authority over him, and stays behind to carry on his “studies” while his assistant tags along with you. With Ralof, both of them are simply hostile.
When Hadvar spots a locked cage, the Torturer cheerfully mentions he lost the key long ago and the prisoner inside screamed for weeks. He’s not even bothered when you pick the lock and help yourself to his gear.
Personality & relationships
Cold, sarcastic and entirely too comfortable with his job. Kill him after Hadvar has moved on and nobody objects – Hadvar may even mutter that men like this call themselves Legionnaires.
Good to know
His main spell is Sparks, and you can find it in the cell with the mage. Looting him also gets you his steel dagger.
