The Temple of Kynareth stands in the Wind District of Whiterun, across the circle from Jorrvaskr and overlooking the withering Gildergreen tree. It’s a place of worship and healing, where the priestess and her apprentice look after the hold’s sick and wounded. Drop by to cure what ails you, receive Kynareth’s blessing at the shrine, or help save Whiterun’s most famous tree.
What you’ll find
- Priestess Danica Pure-Spring, who runs the temple.
- Her apprentice, Acolyte Jenssen.
- Patients in the beds: a Wounded Soldier and a Sickly Farmer.
- The Shrine of Kynareth, where you can pray for a blessing.
Quests
- The Blessings of Nature – Danica tells you the Gildergreen is dying, either in the temple or when you meet her in the square outside.
- Hired Muscle, which also involves the temple.
Since Danica can find you either inside or out in the square, it pays to chat with the temple staff rather than just using the shrine and leaving.
Notable items
- Withershins – a Restoration skill book on a bookshelf in the small room to the right, close to the entrance.
Tips
Grab the skill book on your first visit; it’s sitting in plain view and costs you nothing but a few steps. The shrine is a handy free stop if you’ve picked up a disease while exploring the plains – pray, feel better, carry on. Since the temple is right next to Jorrvaskr and a short walk from Dragonsreach, it’s easy to fold into any Whiterun errand run. If you take on The Blessings of Nature, prepare for a longer trip: the cure for the Gildergreen isn’t found anywhere near the city.
Good to know
During the Battle for Whiterun, the sick farmer and wounded soldier get out of bed and start wandering around the temple aimlessly. Apparently nothing cures a fever quite like a siege.
