Illusion Scrolls

All 14 Illusion scrolls in Skyrim with effects, prices, weights and form IDs, plus where to buy or loot them and which ones are worth carrying.

Illusion scrolls let you reproduce the mind-bending effects of the Illusion school without having learned the spells yourself. Every scroll mirrors one specific Illusion spell, so the set covers the whole toolkit: calming hostile creatures and people, sending them running, turning them against each other, bolstering allies, or hiding yourself. Most of them only work on targets up to a certain level, and that cap is the main difference between the cheap and the expensive versions.

Where to find them

The easiest route is buying them. Spell merchants and court mages carry Illusion scrolls in their stock, and Drevis Neloren at the College of Winterhold, is the go-to seller for Muffle, Pacify and Rout. Enthir also sells Invisibility scrolls. Fear, Frenzy and Invisibility turn up as random loot in chests and dungeons as well.

A few copies sit in fixed spots:

Highlights

  • Harmony is the strongest peacekeeper: every creature and person up to level 12 around you stops fighting for a full minute. It can also be bought at the College.
  • Mayhem works the other way round, making everything up to level 12 nearby attack whoever is closest for 60 seconds – ideal for letting a crowded camp thin itself out.
  • Hysteria sends the same level-12 crowd fleeing for a minute, buying time to heal, escape or pick off stragglers.
  • Call to Arms is the support option. It raises Marksman, One-handed and Two-handed, and according to its description boosts the combat skills, health and stamina of your allies for ten minutes.
  • Invisibility hides you for 30 seconds, but opening, picking up or striking anything ends it at once, so use it to slip past guards rather than to set up an attack.
  • Muffle is cheap at 50 gold and lasts three minutes, a useful companion for sneaking through a long stretch of dungeon.
  • Fury and Courage are the cheapest at 25 gold each; Fury only affects targets up to level 4, so it loses its value quickly.

Tips

Check the level cap before reading a scroll: a Calm or Fear scroll does nothing to an enemy above level 8, while Pacify, Rout, Harmony, Hysteria and Mayhem reach up to level 12. Frenzy and Mayhem can turn bystanders hostile to each other, so read them where only enemies are around.
