Quicksilver Ore looks like someone poured liquid metal into a rock and forgot about it. Two chunks in a smelter make a
Quicksilver Ingot, which shows up in Elven weapons, Elven Gilded Armor (Elven Smithing perk) and as the tempering material for Nordic weapons on Solstheim. It is worth 25 gold a chunk, and with 73 veins it is uncommon but not painfully rare.
How to get it
The largest cluster is outdoors near the Forgotten Vale with 12 veins and 9 loose chunks, so Dawnguard players have a clear target. In regular Skyrim, Quicksilver Mine (fittingly named) in Dawnstar has 5 veins and 2 loose pieces. Smaller clusters sit at Blind Cliff Bastion in Blind Cliff Cave (3), Arcwind Point (3), Druadach Redoubt (2) and near Silverdrift Lair (2).
Loose chunks are also found in Saarthal (3) and in the cellars of the Hearthfire homes Lakeview Manor, Windstad Manor and Heljarchen Hall. Falmer sometimes carry it. There are no regular merchant listings for it in the game data, so if you need a stack of it, plan a mining trip and keep a pickaxe in your pack.

The number in brackets is how many Quicksilver Ore each recipe needs. Bold labels are the Smithing perk the recipe requires.
Good to know
- Two ores (50 gold) smelt into an ingot worth 60, so it is slightly better to sell it refined.
