Dalan Merchad is a Breton sailor serving aboard the North Wind, a ship captained by Kjar. He is one of those people who only feels alive when the deck is moving under his feet, and Windhelm is definitely not helping his mood.
Where to find them
He works at the Windhelm Docks, around the North Wind and the rest of the waterfront.
Personality & relationships
Dalan is a grumbler. He finds Windhelm gloomy and says so to anyone within earshot, and he gets impatient whenever the boat is sitting at anchor. His low opinion of the city goes so far that he jokes the Forsworn living in caves out west might have it better. For all his complaining, he seems loyal enough to his crew and his captain – he just wants to be anywhere but here.
Good to know
- Steal from him or start a fight and the bounty may land in Winterhold rather than in Windhelm’s jurisdiction. His captain Kjar has the same quirk, so the whole crew seems to be registered in the wrong place.
- He gives no quests or services; he’s here for flavour and a few sour one-liners.
