Nepos the Nose is an old Reachman living in a comfortable house in Markarth. On paper he is a respected figure tied to the Silver-Blood family’s mining interests – he deals with the workers and their wages. In reality he is a Forsworn loyalist who has spent nearly twenty years quietly handing out orders from the King in Rags.
Where to find them
He spends his time in Nepos’ House, usually reading by the fire. His maid Uaile meets visitors at the door and insists her master is not to be disturbed. Entering when the quest isn’t running counts as trespassing.
Quests
The Forsworn Conspiracy: Nepos and Thonar Silver-Blood are the two big villains of this quest. Confront him and he doesn’t bother denying anything. He admits he serves Madanach, who leads the Forsworn from inside Cidhna Mine, and that he simply passes the messages on without asking questions. He recalls the uprising during the war with the elves, when the Reachmen briefly drove the Nords out, until Ulfric Stormcloak retook the city and executed almost everyone left behind. Then he explains why he’s being so chatty: you aren’t meant to leave. When the conversation ends, Nepos and his three “servants” – Uaile, Tynan and Morven – all attack.
He doesn’t seem to know about Madanach’s arrangement with the Silver-Bloods, and genuinely believes he is serving the cause.
Personality & relationships
Nepos comes across as weary rather than fiery – an old man tired of sending young people off to die. The smelter overseer Mulush gro-Shugurz blames him for every late silver shipment.
Good to know
He carries Nepos’ Journal and the key to his house. If he survives the quest, he later turns up at Markarth’s shrine to Talos and attacks on sight. Kill him and Mulush may send you a grateful letter. The game files call him an Elder, but he clearly sees himself as a Reachman.
