Atub is an Orsimer (Orc) mage and the wise woman of Largashbur, an Orc stronghold that has seen better days. While her chief sulks and the giants pound on the gates, she is the one willing to break tradition and ask an outsider for help – that outsider being you.
Where to find them
Inside the walls of Largashbur, though she often leaves her spot to help defend the stronghold against giant attacks.
Quests
The Cursed Tribe: after the Orcs have dealt with the attacking giant, Atub talks Ugor out of chasing you away and explains the situation. Chief Yamarz, once a proud warrior, is cursed and weak, so the whole tribe is weak, and the giants can smell it. She needs to petition Malacath, but can’t travel to his shrine, so she asks you for Troll Fat and a Daedra Heart (her advice on where to find one: “in a Daedra”). Bring them back and she insists you attend the ritual, since you’re part of this now. If Yamarz suggests you go and petition Malacath yourself, Atub takes the idea seriously and sends you to the shrine; when you return with Malacath’s cryptic message that Yamarz “must listen with the ears of the wind”, she instantly understands that a ritual is needed and hurries to prepare it. At the very end she is the one you report to with Shagrol’s Warhammer – and you get to decide whether she hears that Yamarz betrayed you or that he died bravely.
She can’t be killed while the quest is running, but if you kill her before starting it, The Cursed Tribe can never be completed.
Services
Atub trains Illusion up to Expert level. After the quest she mentions coming to her for remedies and cures, but there’s no option to actually trade with her.
Personality & relationships
Atub is calm, devout and fiercely loyal to her people. She describes the Orc way of life: Orcs lived in Skyrim before the Nords came, everyone works to make the tribe strong, only the bravest may lead and marry, and wise women like her are mothers of chieftains who guide the tribe on what pleases Malacath. Her Daedric patron, she warns, is quick to anger and slow to forgive. She stands up to both Ugor and Yamarz when she thinks the tribe’s survival is at stake.
