Lokir, also called Lokir of Rorikstead, is a Nord horse thief and one of the most famous faces in Skyrim, purely because nobody gets to know him for long. He hails from Rorikstead, though he has no home there and none of the villagers ever mention him.
Where to find them
Only in the opening of the game, sitting across from you in the prisoner cart on its way to Helgen. After that, he is gone for good.
Quests
Unbound – Lokir was just about to steal a horse and ride for Hammerfell when he blundered into the Imperial ambush meant for Ulfric Stormcloak and his men. On the ride he curses the Stormcloaks for getting him caught and tells you the two of you don’t belong there. Ralof replies that they are all in this together now.
When he learns that one of his fellow prisoners is Ulfric himself, he realises what is waiting at the end of the road and panics. He prays to the Divines, protests that he is no rebel and, when he is ordered to the headsman’s block, makes a run for it. The Imperial archers bring him down in seconds – a grim lesson for anyone else thinking about running.
Personality & relationships
Lokir is a coward and a complainer, which makes him oddly relatable. He thinks the Empire was nice and lazy until the rebels came along, and he wants nothing to do with their war. When Ralof asks where he’s from – a Nord’s last thoughts should be of home – he answers Rorikstead.
Good to know
- He is the first character to die in the game, and his death is scripted, so there’s no way to save him.
- Occasionally he doesn’t run from the cart, which can stall the opening and force a restart.
