Winterhold Imperial Camp

Imperial Legion war camp in the frozen mountains, closer to Dawnstar than Winterhold, with a quartermaster, crafting stations and Legate Sevan Telendas during the Civil War.

Winterhold Imperial Camp is a temporary Imperial Legion base pitched in the frigid northern mountains. Despite the name, it actually sits much closer to Dawnstar than to Winterhold. The camp may only appear while you are working through the Civil War questline, so don’t be surprised if you find nothing but snow here at other times.

What you’ll find

  • Legate Sevan Telendas, the officer in charge of the camp.
  • An Imperial Quartermaster you can trade with.
  • A full set of crafting stations: alchemy lab, anvil, grindstone and workbench.
  • A tabletop map in the largest tent; inspecting it may add new locations to your own map.
  • A few chests scattered among the tents.

Quests

The camp is tied to the Imperial side of the war, including Reunification of Skyrim and Rescue from Fort Kastav, where the Legion plans to free its captured soldiers from Fort Kastav.

Tips

Treat the camp as a free forward base: sell off your loot to the quartermaster, sharpen your blade, improve your armor and mix a few potions before marching on the next objective. Check the big map in the command tent – it costs nothing and might reveal places you have not discovered yet. The chests in the tents can be looted, but if you have sided with the Legion it feels a little rude to empty the pantry of the people paying your wages.

Because the camp only exists while the war is running, it is worth making the most of it while it lasts. Its position near Dawnstar also makes it a reasonable stop when you are travelling along the cold northern edge of Skyrim and need to repair gear or unload heavy loot without walking all the way into town.

Good to know

Using the grindstone here can make your character’s foot sink into the snow along with the base of the stone. It looks silly but works perfectly well, so sharpen away.
