Rescue from Fort Kastav

Rescue from Fort Kastav is the Imperial mirror of the Stormcloaks’ Rescue from Fort Neugrad: a prison break first, a fort assault second. It’s only available if you joined the Imperial Legion, and Legate Rikke hands it out from the Winterhold Imperial Camp.

Walkthrough

Meet Hadvar and his scouts by the wall of Fort Kastav in Winterhold. The plan: slip into the prison through the hatch outside the fort, free the captured legionnaires, then meet in the courtyard.

Inside, the Stormcloak jailers each carry a cell key – pickpocket it or take it off their bodies. Leave a jailer alive and he’ll turn hostile as soon as the prisoners are out, so deal with them before they cut down the people you just rescued. Once the prisoners have their gear back, either storm the courtyard together or go out first, start the fight and let Hadvar’s men pour in.

Note: if you visited Fort Kastav earlier while necromancers held it, or traded holds during Season Unending, the setup can differ and the garrison may be alert.

When the courtyard is clear, talk to Hadvar, then report to General Tullius in Solitude, who promotes you to Legate.

Leveled armor and the rank of Legate in the Legion.
