Anise’s Cabin is a small home south of Bleak Falls Barrow and west of Riverwood, close to the river. Its owner, Anise, spends her days gardening or sitting by the door like any harmless old woman. The trapdoor near her bed tells a different story – and once you have seen what is down there, she stops being friendly.
What you’ll find
- A garden with leeks, cabbages, potatoes and mountain flowers.
- A cabin with no front door, a bed and a respawning gold bag.
- A cellar with an Alchemy Lab and an Arcane Enchanter, plus a letter revealing Anise as a witch.
- Anise herself, who turns hostile as soon as you climb back out of the basement.
Notable items
- Song of the Alchemists – Alchemy skill book on the shelf at the foot of the bed.
- Anise’s Letter to Helgi – in the basement. It hints that Anise and Helgi want to start a coven in the nearby forest, though how the two are connected is never explained.
- A Potent Paralysis Poison on a basement cupboard – always potent, even if you show up at level 1.
- Petty and lesser soul gems near the door.
- An iron ore vein a little south of the cabin, by the river.
- Ingredients: deathbell, a garlic braid, hagraven feathers in the cellar, snowberries, and red, purple and blue mountain flowers.
Tips
Decide before you go downstairs. Leaving the cellar flips Anise to hostile, and if you walk away without dealing with her, she will attack you on every future visit. Even after she is dead, everything in the cabin still counts as stolen, and followers grumble that you are trespassing.
That said, the cabin makes a handy early-game base: an alchemy lab, an enchanter and a bed close to Riverwood, without having to buy a house first. Just remember there is no door, so the occasional uninvited guest may wander in. A random encounter point just northeast of the cabin sees plenty of action, especially when you fast travel here.
