Reachcliff Cave

Small cave leading into a Nordic burial chamber south of Reachwater Rock, cleared of draugr for Namira's followers during the quest The Taste of Death.

Reachcliff Cave is a small cave system south of Reachwater Rock, southeast of Markarth, that opens into an old Nordic burial chamber. It is short and sparse on loot, but it plays a starring role in one of Skyrim’s most stomach-turning Daedric quests: this is where the cannibal Eola wants to set up her dinner table.

What you’ll find

  • Two draugr right at the start, and three more in a dining-hall style chamber at the end.
  • A fork in the burial area – both paths meet again. The left one leads to a trapped chest with leveled loot, the right one has an iron ore vein.
  • At higher levels, an unnamed dragon priest lounging on a seat in the final chamber.
  • At least four chests in total.
  • A secret entrance north of Dushnikh Yal, by the bridge, that becomes a fast-travel point once you have cleared the cave during the quest.

Quests

The Taste of Death – You are sent here to meet Eola, who asks you to clear the draugr out. Afterwards she wants you to lure the priest Verulus back to the cave to be eaten. The quest has to be started for the dungeon to count as completed, although killing Eola at the entrance before going further also does the trick.

Notable items

  • Conjuration skill book The Doors of Oblivion, on a bookshelf in a room before the shrine area.
  • An iron ore vein.

Tips

Unusually for a Nordic tomb, there are hardly any traps, tripwires or pressure plates here, so you can relax a little. The exception is a chest wired with a trap that you can only reach by jumping the gap between two pillars – or by cheating it with Whirlwind Sprint. If you kill Eola early, the route to the dining hall may stay closed, so it is safer to play along until the cave is cleared.

Good to know

The dining hall is not just a nickname – the room is laid out for a feast, which fits Namira’s tastes all too well. If you use Aura Whisper there, you can spot a hidden figure behind an inaccessible wall that players believe stands in for Namira’s voice.
