Ruins of Rkund

Hard-to-reach Dwemer ruins south of Darklight Tower, guarded by a Wispmother, with a caved-in entrance and a chest buried in the rubble.

The Ruins of Rkund are a small cluster of open-air Dwemer stonework tucked into the mountains south of Darklight Tower. What looks like the entrance to an underground Dwemer structure has long since caved in, so there is no grand dungeon here – just a guarded doorstep and a bit of buried treasure. The real challenge is getting there at all.

What you’ll find

  • A Wispmother and her wisps, standing guard over the collapsed entrance.
  • A chest in the rubble at the blocked doorway.
  • Two dead witches lying on the ground, along with Dwemer metal and other loot.
  • A fountain-like feature near where the witches lie.

Getting there

Normally the ruins can only be reached by passing through Darklight Tower, which means finishing the questline that takes place there first. There are a couple of unofficial shortcuts, though:

Both routes involve the classic Skyrim mountain dance of hopping up slopes the game never really meant you to climb. Save first.

Tips

The Wispmother is the real threat here, so bring healing potions and deal with her wisps quickly so you are not fighting on several fronts. Afterwards, check the remains for wisp wrappings.

Players occasionally report the dead witches or wisp cores floating in midair after the fight. If loot ends up hovering out of reach, a reload is your friend.
