Faldar’s Tooth

Bandit-held fort near Riften turned into a wolf-fighting arena, with caged wolves, a bettor’s room, a tower full of skill books and a bandit chief on top.

Faldar’s Tooth is a ruined fort a short way west/northwest of Riften, taken over by bandits who have found a grim hobby: betting on wolf fights. Cages of snarling wolves dot the fort, and at the far end a fighting pit is ringed by cheering spectators. If you want loot, skill books and a solid fight in one stop, this is it.

What you’ll find

  • Leveled bandits, wolves (hostile if you let them out) and the odd skeever.
  • The wolf-fight cage, with a locked bettor’s room nearby holding gold.
  • A long hallway of beds with two lamps hanging from the ceiling that explode when hit.
  • A kitchen run by an Orc cook. Dog meat is everywhere – the Cook’s Journal explains he had to feed the gang with it. A copy of Uncommon Taste lies on his table, and an uncommon knife sits on the bottom shelf among the cutlery.
  • A bandit chief at the top of the tower.
  • Forge, grindstone, tanning rack and cooking spit, plus a lot of iron ore near the forge.

Quests

Faldar’s Tooth is used by a long list of radiant quests: “Bloodthirst”, “Amulet of the Moon” (for Kharjo), “Family Heirloom”, “Fetch Me That Book!”, “Retrieval”, “Shalidor’s Insights” and “Stealing Plans” (the Silver Hand Stratagem then sits atop the northernmost tower, reached via the eastern one). It may also hold the Keening in “Arniel’s Endeavor”, crossbow schematics in “Ancient Technology” (Dawnguard), or Meridia’s Beacon in The Break of Dawn.

Notable items

  • Proper Lock Design (Lockpicking) – on a table at the top of the tower, guarded by the chief.
  • The Lunar Lorkhan (Alteration) – on a bookshelf at the top of the tower.
  • The Marksmanship Lesson (Archery) – past the bed hallway, in a room left of a mammoth skull, next to a trapped chest.
  • The Legend of Red Eagle, plus The Wolf Queen Books II and III.

Tips

Shoot the hanging lamps over the bed hallway while bandits are underneath for a cheap, fiery advantage – just don’t stand under them yourself. The key to the eastern tower is in the shelter by the fire pit. With so many locks around, the fort is a decent spot to train Lockpicking, and the heap of iron ore by the forge makes it handy for practising Transmute. Think twice before opening the wolf cages: they won’t be grateful.
