Ravenscar Hollow is a cave northwest of Solitude run by a coven of hagravens. They have been busy collecting bandits and keeping them in cages, and very few of their guests have survived the experience. It is a compact but nasty little dungeon with a secret wall, a useful key and a surprisingly good table of gems.
What you’ll find
- A sabre cat guarding the outside.
- Hagravens, a troll and a frostbite spider inside.
- A bone alarm trap that warns the residents you have arrived.
- A first chamber with a hagraven and a troll; the hagraven carries the Ravenscar Hollow cage key.
- A lever near the hagraven’s tent that opens a secret wall into the rest of the cave.
- Cages full of dead bandits, plus one who is still alive.
- An iron ore vein beside the ramp up to the first hagraven, and a corundum ore vein near the right-hand cage.
Quests
- Town guards gossip about hagravens, which adds the cave to your map.
- Shalidor’s Insights, given by Urag gro-Shub at the College’s Arcanaeum, can send you here.
- Possible location for the ancient vampire leg in Ancient Power and the Amulet of Bats in Amulets of Night Power.
Notable items
- Destruction skill book The Art of War Magic – on the table behind the chest.
- A table with several valuable gems, to the front and right as you come through the secret entrance.
- Ravenscar Hollow cage key.
Tips
Watch your step on the way in – the bone alarm will ruin any sneak attempt. Prioritise the hagraven over the troll in the first room, since she has the key. The caged bandit begs to be let out, claiming he and his friends were grabbed by the hagravens for reasons unknown. Free him if you like, but once the last hagraven dies he will turn on you, so keep your weapon handy or simply leave him be.
Good to know
Geimund, the stablemaster at Katla’s Farm, was a mercenary until this cave almost killed him. He decided it was too dangerous and switched to horses. Sensible man.
