Whiterun Stables sits just outside the gates of Whiterun, run by Skulvar Sable-Hilt. For many new adventurers it is the first real travel hub they meet: a horse for sale and a carriage parked just to the south, ready to take you to far-off cities long before your map is filled in.
What you’ll find
- Skulvar Sable-Hilt, the owner, who handles horse sales.
- Other locals around the stables: Lillith Maiden-Loom, Jervar and Bjorlam.
- A black horse available to buy.
- A carriage just south of the stables offering quick transport to other parts of Skyrim.
Tips
The carriage is one of the best tools you have early on, when you have barely explored and the walk to the next city is long.
Whatever you do, do not kill the carriage driver. He does not respawn, so one bad day with a stray fireball can cost you this transport link for the rest of the game. Shout responsibly.
Collecting horses? Each major stable sells its own breed, so Whiterun’s black horse is just one of several:
- Markarth Stables – pinto
- Riften Stables – dapple grey
- Solitude Stables – palomino
- Windhelm Stables – bay with a white blaze and socks
