Gjukar’s Monument

Stone memorial southeast of Rorikstead marking an ancient battle, visited during The Book of Love and surrounded by shrines, ruins and skill books.

Gjukar’s Monument is a lonely memorial southeast of Rorikstead, near Broken Fang Cave and southwest of Swindler’s Den. It marks the site of an ancient battle where the commander Gjukar and his whole platoon were killed after making camp nearby. There’s no dungeon here, but the area around it is surprisingly rich in small treasures, so it’s well worth a detour.

What you’ll find

  • The monument itself, with a low-level sword and a leveled shield lying at its base.
  • A corundum ore vein just a few steps north of the monument.
  • The fossilized shell of a huge, long-dead mudcrab a little to the southeast.
  • Ruins directly east, with a Shrine of Zenithar, a skill book and a locked chest on top.
  • Further east, two stone columns with a Shrine of Stendarr, a strongbox and another skill book.

Quests

The Book of Love – you meet Ruki here, a ghost looking for her husband Fenrig. She hasn’t realised he died in the battle, and helping the two find each other is the point of your visit.

Notable items

  • Speech skill book 2920, Second Seed (v5) in the eastern ruins.
  • Enchanting skill book Twin Secrets at the Shrine of Stendarr.
  • Corundum ore vein, plus the sword and shield at the monument.

Tips

Make a little loop of it: monument first, then the corundum vein, then east to the ruins and on to the Stendarr shrine. Two skill books and two shrines for a few minutes of walking is a great deal. If you’re doing Kyne’s Sacred Trials, the mudcrab fossil is presumably the body of the Guardian Mudcrab spirit, so keep it in mind.

Good to know

Ruki and Fenrig can’t agree on how to say their commander’s name: she calls him GYU-kar, he calls him JU-kar. Ruki’s version is probably the right one, since it follows the Nordic habit of pronouncing J as Y – awkward for Fenrig, who actually served under the man.
