Spread the Love

Hand out twenty copies of The Warmth of Mara to the people of Riften for Dinya Balu, priestess of Mara, and return to her for a potion.

Spread the Love is a small miscellaneous quest in Riften, down in the Rift. Dinya Balu, priestess of the Temple of Mara, is convinced the city is drowning in sin and wants Mara’s message in every hand. Your job is to play pamphlet missionary in one of the least spiritual cities in Skyrim, and enjoy the reactions.

How to start

  • Complete The Book of Love for Dinya Balu.
  • Talk to Dinya at the Temple of Mara afterwards; she gives you a stack of The Warmth of Mara missives to distribute.

Walkthrough

Distribute The Warmth of Mara

Give a copy to twenty different people in Riften. The journal counts each delivery. In total 37 residents can receive one, so there is plenty of slack if somebody is asleep, dead or locked away. Just talk to a person and use the dialogue option to offer the pamphlet.

Everyone on the list accepts it, but not everyone is gracious about it. Some of the people you can hand one to:

  • Friendly takers: Aerin, Alessandra, Balimund, Bersi Honey-Hand, Bolli, Drifa, Shadr, Svana Far-Shield, Talen-Jei, Tythis Ulen, Ungrien and Valindor take it politely. Mjoll the Lioness plans to share hers with Aerin.
  • Reluctant takers: Asbjorn Fire-Tamer, Asgeir Snow-Shod and Hafjorg admit it is not their usual reading, but promise to try. Haelga says she prefers Dibella.
  • Grumpy takers: Brand-Shei says nobody can help him, Elgrim cannot even get the goddess’s name right, Grelod the Kind only cares whether Mara will mind the orphans, and Keerava worships the septim.
  • Openly hostile takers: Maven Black-Briar plans to use hers as kindling, Sibbi Black-Briar and Ingun Black-Briar want nothing to do with it, Nura Snow-Shod invokes Talos to get rid of it, Vipir the Fleet questions your sanity and Wujeeta has a very low opinion of its value.
  • Others: Dirge, From-Deepest-Fathoms, Hemming Black-Briar, Hofgrir Horse-Crusher, Indaryn, Louis Letrush, Niluva Hlaalu, Nivenor (who compares you to Maramal), Romlyn Dreth and Vulwulf Snow-Shod also accept one.

Return to Dinya

After the twentieth pamphlet, head back to Dinya at the temple. She is delighted and gives you a potion as thanks.

Rewards

  • A random, leveled potion

Tips and notes

  • The journal shows a running counter out of 20, so you always know how many pamphlets are left.
  • Combine the deliveries with other Riften errands, since many recipients hang around the market and the inns.
  • Twenty out of 37 possible recipients means you can skip anyone you would rather not talk to, Black-Briars included.
  • Dinya’s earlier quest, The Book of Love, also takes you around Riften and beyond, so doing the two back to back saves travel.
  • The reward is modest, so treat this as a favor for completionists and a tour of Riften’s colorful attitudes rather than a money-maker.
