Roadside Ruins lives up to its name: it’s a small, crumbling Nordic ruin right off the main road northwest of Falkreath, a short way up from the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Two dead bandits outside the entrance tell you someone already tried their luck. Worth a quick stop for a chest and a free skill book.
What you’ll find
- A dome-shaped stone structure, much like similar ruins dotted around Skyrim, now falling apart.
- A spriggan that attacks anyone who strays into its patch. At low levels, five frostbite spiders take its place instead.
- Two dead bandits by the entrance.
- A chest in the very centre of the ruins.
- Alchemy ingredients growing all around: bleeding crown, hanging moss, monarch butterflies, purple mountain flower and taproot.
Notable items
- Catalogue of Weapon Enchantments (Enchanting skill book), leaning against the chest.
- The chest at the centre of the ruins.
Tips
Since the guardian depends on your level, check what you’re walking into: a single spriggan hides well among the greenery, while five spiders mean poison and a lot of legs. Either way it’s a short fight. Grab the book and the chest, then sweep the area for ingredients – taproot and bleeding crown are worth the detour for alchemists.
If you’re heading to or from the Sanctuary on Dark Brotherhood business, this makes an easy side trip – just don’t add yourself to the bandit pile by the door.
